A Song of Ice and Fire

If you like reading fantasy books, you’ve probably already heard and read about the series named “A Song of Ice and Fire”, written by George R. R. Martin. I must confess that I’m a little behind the storyline, because I’ve heard about this series only one year ago, and have read just the first part named “A Game of Thrones” and the second one bearing the title”A Clash of Kings”, till now. This is mostly because I couldn’t get my hands on the second part for a long time, because of long queues in my local library, and also due to the fact that I had other things on my reading list for a longer time.

And now to the story. As those of you who have already read at least the first book know, the story is set in a fictional world, on a continent called Westeros and partially also on a part of a large eastern continent of an unknown name. The story itself, is actually composed of three main stories, featuring the civil war fought by the noble families, strugling for control of the kingdom, the threat from the misterious Others, from the far north and the journey of Daenerys Targaryen, the last remaining child of the rightful king, that was murdered fifteen years ago and who is now heading back to Westeros, to claim the throne.

This is just a small insight on the story, so you’d get an idea, what’s this all about. As far as I could find out, there are two more books available, which I definitely have to get my hand on as soon as I get enough time for reading. I also discovered that there’s a fifth book in the making right now, and should be released sometime in the middle of 2009. Another two are projected to be made, so there will be a total of seven books. There’s no telling when they’ll be written, but I guess we won’t have to wait too long. The series is already a success, and I bet the author is doing all in his power to release the books soon.

I started reading this book on the recommendation of a friend and I’ve only gotten almost halfway into it before stopping. It’s been weeks since I last read it, and seeing your post made me think about resuming it again.

    Poor Bran…

I found this an excellent series, not your cookie cutter fantasy. The wrong people die!! The bad guys win! It’s gritty, it’s more realistic despite its fantasy setting than many other tales out there… I highly recommend it :)
