Lights and presents… the true spirit of December?

Already a month ago, many supermarkets and companies started decorating their stores and buildings, and selling christmas related products. It was all so unnatural, and out of the context of the Autumn, and you really couldn’t shade yourself from the thought, that this is all done just for money.
I wonder how the festivities looked like a few decades ago.
No supermarkets, a lower degree of special occasions infulenced by capitalism… all of it had a different meaning than it has today. It’s sad to see that many people nowadays only care for what they get at Christmas, and because they don’t have to go to work on that day. But that’s not the point! This holiday is something special, and it’s because of that special event that it even exists! No, it’s not because of Santa or of his reindeers, but because of Jesus. And if you stop for a moment and check what’s displayed in shops, you’ll see that there’s hardly any store that would sell presents that have some relation with the real Christmas. It’s Santa Clause all over the place. How could it ever come to that? Because a rotund Santa, with a blissful expression and a bag of candies makes a better present than baby Jesus in a stable?
I know, I know… it’s not all as bad as it seems, but it still makes you think, why’s that so. Are we ashamed of the true meaning of Christmas or what?
If someone’s wondering, the pictures were taken in the central part of Ljubljana. And yes, my cell phone’s camera sucks, so don’ t bother viewing them in their full resolution.

I think we’ll have more than enough snow very soon. And then I’ll probably wish there wouldn’t be any
